R9 290X or GTX 780?!

Solution

only the reference 290x gets to 90 and I wouldn't recommend buying that. All aftermarket coolers perform well, particularly the Tri-x, you'll see 65-75C depending on usage.

Playing in 1920x1080 the R9 290X gets you more FPS. And in fact, the higher the resolution the bigger the difference gets. Unfortunately, the 290X gets really hot, maybe a little bit more than 90ºC while the GTX 780 rarely gets to 85ºC. You'll get more performance out of a 290X in my opinion. If you choose the AMD, consider buying the model with better cooling as the GPU tends to get really hot.

If you admit you are a fanboy, I dont know why you even asked. The R9 290x is better value and will handle games better than the 780, however if you want to buy the 780 go for it.

sorry, for some reason I thought I saw ti in the title. In that case 290X is about 10-20% better depending on the game.
