Hey guys. i currently have my main gaming rig that i also connect up to my tv to watch things like netflix, and sky go on.
However i am thinking about building a XBMC mini itx rig. i am almost decided on the hardware i will be using, however i dont know what OS would be best. i was originally going windows, however i also saw alot of forums mention OpenElec and XBMCbuntu. i am very tempted with the OpenElec route, however i want to be able to either get netflix and sky plugins for XBMC of at least be able to access the site from the XBMC interface. so i am not sure if the Linux route would work.?
any advice on whether it is even possible to get Netflix and Sky go to work on windows or linux XBMC boxes and how to do either would be amazing.?
thanks

Solution
XBMCbuntu if you need Netflix. I'm not sure about Sky Go.
Install Plex Server on a Windows (ideally Windows 7) PC
Configure Plex Server
Grab the Netflix plugin and sky go plugin
Install them to your PlexServer in the normal way
From your Plex Client, configure and test
That should be it - there are other plugins for Plex out there like the ITV Player, but sort that out yourselves!

Plex no longer supports netflix, I have been using Windows 8.1 I create a shortcut for the Netflix app using OblyTile then use xbmc advanced launcher to open the short cut then control that via remote desktop on my tablet (I think you can do so also via a remote though I have not tried it yet) and also to shut it down to go back into xbmc, is a pain to do but so far is the best option I have come up with. Also doing it this way also means you have full hd content where as the plugins never play at full hd. If sky has a similar metro app then you can do the same for sky

For windows 7 I have no idea, I don't think the apps work with 7 as they are metro apps (so far it is one of the few things I like about the new windows lol) for windows 8+. I think some people have managed to get netflix to launch in a browser via advanced launcher but I have no idea how.

Your rig looks fine I would pair it with a discreet gpu if you can with that motherboard, it will give you a bit more oompf for 1080p media. Sorry I can not be more help with windows 7, xbmc and netflix

Don't worry about win 7 troubles I'll have a look on some xbmc forums and see what the possibilities are. If not I'll try and get a windows 8 key.
But i dont think I'll need a discrete card. That is a fairly decent apu and should easily cover HD media. It will also keep the temp and noise down a fair bit.
Thanks.
