I just bought a new Luxo M30 chassis and a gtx 750 TI graphics card. I had a friend give me a Gigabyte Ga-eo45-ud3p motherboard and a quad core processor. Now everything works fine on my old comp with the new GPU. After i hook everything up to the new motherboard and CPU the computer will turn on for about 5-10 seconds and the shut up and wont let me turn it back on until i unplug it for a few seconds. Powersupply should be good as i plugged it back into the old comp and it works fine (650w PSU) Ive tried hooking up JUST the essentials and it still powers off after about 5-10 seconds. how do i test if the cpu or motherboard is bad. What other possibilites could cause it to do this. Thank you!

The almost certain cause is that your CPU is overheating. To diagnose this beyond doubt spam the delete key immediately after you power up your system, this will get you into your Motherboard's BIOS. In the BIOS look around for the CPU Temeperature readout and find out at what temp your CPU idles at. Anything above 45C is a dangerously high idle temp since your CPU will gain 15-30degrees under load. At anything over 90 degrees celsius your CPU will auto shut down.

If your CPU is indeed running hot it means your heatsink and fan CPU cooler is improperly seated/installed and/or the thermal paste was not applied or applied incorrectly. Remove your CPU cooler, clean the thermal paste off it and the CPU, reapply new thermal paste and carefully reseat the assembly.

Could that still be the case if it shuts down before anything can show up on the screen? From the time I push the power button, it stays on for about 5-10 seconds. Nothing comes up on the screen.

Yeah i got it all put together myself. Just got all the parts in the other day. I'll take it apart and put it back together and add more paste to it and get back with you in a few days. Thank you!
