Hello All,

I'm trying to install a new Samsung 840 EVO 250gb ssd in my desktop PC and clone the existing hdd (WD WD1001FALS-41KB0) over to the new ssd. The hdd is SATA connected and the ssd is connected via a USB 2.0 to SATA adapter. What I want to do is clone the existing Windows 7 OS and files from my hdd to the ssd and then make the ssd my primary drive, then delete everything off the hdd and use is for file storage - typical setup. So it would seem I have a few issues going on here:

1 - I tried connecting the new sdd to SATA directly on the motherboard but when I do the computer freezes and doesn't recognize the ssd, hence the reason I'm using a migration adapter.

2 - When running the Samsung cloning software that came with the drive, the process gets hung up and freezes after transferring only 1298MB of 86.1GB - I made it a little further with Acronis True Image (maybe 12% data transfer) before the pc stops processing the data transfer and my screen goes blank

The ssd is brand new and I know it works because I previously had it installed and running in my laptop where Windows 7 and a number of other programs ran flawlessly, fast, and with no issues via a SATA connection.

I have reformatted the ssd and even wiped it then reformatted it again but still it wont be recognized by my PC when connected directly to the motherboard, when I connect it via the USB to SATA adapter the PC recognizes the drive and lists it as healthy and formatted.

Motherboard is ASUS A8V-deluxe
RAM is Geil @ 4GB - 4x1GB

I'm at a loss - please help.

Sounds like a possible SSD issue there that OR your extreamly old and out dated system. a 939 Socket Motherboard is pretty old. The motherboard might just not like the SSD. Maybe check to see if you have the latest BIOS and if not update and see if it works then?
