the adapter when disconnected from the laptop gives its usual yellow light. but when its connected to laptop it blinks.. and the laptop is not getting charged.

do you have the dell battery meter installed? What does it say when you hover over the battery icon on the task bar?

Yes I have batter meter installed. Its showing just the same icon when its not charging..but for a single second it shows charging icon then again returns to normal..

Hmm it sounds like a fault. try taking the battery out and putting it back in... in the battery meter you can also turn off batter charging then turn it back on... is it still in warranty?
