My laptop (A mini laptop, actually.) is shutting down when I play The Sims, or when I watch too many videos on YT. I know The Sims takes up a lot of space, but there are still 88.8 GB free. (Out of 141.) The processor is an AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual Core Processor L310. (It's a Gateway.) It has 2GB ram.

Please help! DX

Many many laptops are simply not engineered to handle heat. I have been modifying laptop heatsinks for many years. They just keep building crappy stuff that has to be modified. If you feel competent to open up your laptop, you can google the model of your laptop and see if there is a youtube video on how to modify it to increase the cooling capacity.

When a computer's components get too hot, it'll automatically shut itself down in order to prevent damage. That's probably your situation. I would suggest taking the laptop apart, thoroughly dusting it with compressed air, and applying new thermal compound to the GPU and CPU. If this seems like a tad too tedious, try to just blow compressed air through it (carefully), and see if the dusting helps.

Also, you may consider a cooling rack for the laptop. Coolermaster sells some good ones.
