Internet going in and out repeatedly

I'm having a problem where my internet is going down perhaps every other night for an hour. The connection will drop (activity light goes out on the modem) and then it will continually try to reconnect for the better part of an hour - when it finally does reconnect it tends to work for 30 seconds to a minute and then it goes out again. After some time (between 30 minutes to 2 hours) the connection will come up and stay up for good.

I've never had any problem like this. I'm on a DSL line (12mbps just upgraded from 6mbps and it seems to be happening more frequently now) with a local company. That being said, I don't believe the issue is on their end because a friend at the top of the road doesn't have outages at the same times I do. I've tried replacing the modem (provider gave me a new one) and am about to replace the router as well, although I don't think the router is actually the issue.

I've called the ISP but they are unable to help. For some reason, and this sounds crazy but it's true, the internet almost always (99% or more) goes out after 8pm. I'm on the computer nearly all day for work, so it isn't because I'm only on at night to notice it. I would say it's only gone out before 8pm maybe once or twice, and has gone out after 8pm at least 30 times.

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it so much. I'm currently taking courses online and this is having an affect on not only my grades but also the amount of stress I'm under. I have timed tests for the courses and have had the internet go out during the tests before - it's not fun!

Thanks,
Noah
