Ok so I built this puppy two years ago using the ASUS M5A97 r2.0 MB, an AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0 Ghz CPU, EVGA Getforce 8400 video card and 16GB of Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3 PC10666 1333MHz RAM. Recently, I wanted to pump this thing up with another 16 GB of Ram so I purchased 2 sticks of Patriot Signature Line 16GB DDR3, 1333 MHz, DIMM, PC3-10600. After installing the new RAM, I had no video, and I had to manually do a cold boot to shut down the computer. Everything else was ok, including the RAM test lamp on the MB. I switched the video card from one PCI slot to the other and it came up one time and then back to no video. By the way, the power supply is 750 W. I've flashed the BIOS and still no change. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi

What are you doing which can use 32 GB of ram
One of the few things I know of is multiple virtual machines

Ideally you want 4 x 8gb identicle ram modules which are on asus web site list of compatible ram for this motherboard

Look at what companies such as Crucial or other major ram suppliers recommend for your motherboard

Normally you want the graphics card in the slot nearest the CPU so it gets 16 PCI-e lanes instead of 8 lanes

I'll follow up on your suggestions Mike, but it is what it is. I tried to save a few bucks on the RAM thinking there would be no compatibility issues. The graphics card is in the slot nearest the CPU so I can check that one off the list. I already checked the ASUS website and as I remember both sets of RAM were compatible with this MB.

Admirable
Did you try just running the new ram in the computer without the corsair? Your motherboard might not be able to grab the XMP profile off of the memory. Even though they are both cl9 at 1.5v you are always taking a risk by buying ram that hasn't been paired together to work together, this is true for both same kit and mix matched. For dd2 it was a little bit more easy to mix and match ram, but now with ddr3 you pretty much never want to mix and match kits. Just send it back, pay the 5-10% restocking fee if there is one, and buy yourself another kit of the same exact ram as you have now.
