Hey all,
Recently, I was given a Toshiba Satellite L755 off a friend to fix. Initial inspection revealed that the computer would not boot to the operating system, it would only go as far as the BIOS before throwing up the 'No bootable device' error. Tested the hard drive with SeaTools and it failed, so DBANed the HDD with zeros, thinking it was a virus and that the wipe would solve the problem. I dug out my Windows Vista disc and installed Vista, and to my surprise, it worked! Installed fine, was able to boot up, etc. However, upon reboot for the first time, the error was back. Put in the DVD again and tried the 'fixboot' commands. 'Fixboot /rebuildbcd' I could not get to work, as whenever i tried to add the configuration to the BCD, it said that the 'requested system device could not be found.' This was a start of a whole host of errors - tried rebuilding the BCD, but again, fail - this time, 'The store import operation has failed' showed. Had already tried Gparted from this point, tried low level formatting, DBAN, no luck. So, with a last ditch effort, I took the HDD out of the laptop and put it into my own, currently working laptop. Windows 7 can install and run fine on my laptop, however the minute you put it back into the other (broken) laptop, it just comes up with the 'no bootable device' error, and I'm back to square one. I am not sure whether the HDD or the BIOS is to blame here - the BIOS has been flashed to the latest version with no problems, however it did not fix the issue.
If I could have your thoughs and possible solutions on this matter please, as I am really running out of options here.
Regards, Dan
