Hi, i am planning on upgrading my old computer to an actual graphics card since the computer comes stocked with a integrated graphics card. I want to upgrade it to a Amd XFX Radeon HD 6450 2gb DDR3, i am not a hardcore gamer or anything so this card is perfect for me but ive been starting to wonder if the power supply (250w) can handle this. I have been searching everywhere but i cant find my answer.
Btw the integrated graphics it came with is a nVidia GeForce 6150SE nForce 430

Other specs include:
CPU:Amd Athlon X2 215 2.7GHZ Dual core
MOBO: Pegatron M2N68-LA (Narra5)
Ram:4 GB
HDD:500GB
Moniter:1600x900 20inch

Hi

AMD recommend psu of 400w for one or 500w for two in crossfire mode
So I would look closely at 12 volt rating of this psu
Expect psu to go pop when you play a game but it may boot up to windows desktop

So should i get a 400w or a 500w? I want to make sure that the motherboard does not get to much voltage

its nothing like that more wattage psu will not give your mobo more voltage.....get a seasonic or xfx 450 - 500 watt psu then....and that psu popping up is not true my friend uses his 300 watt psu which is powering his 6670 for 2 years ...

Hi
A good 400watt psu for one graphics card should do better than a cheaper or no name brand 500watt psu

Risk if too much current required by combination of motherboard & graphics card disks etc the psu will over heat and should shut down if a good quality brand or go pop if rubbish brand

It's 27w tdp. You can't compare others since the other specs affect power consumption. His cpu is 65w so a 250w should be fine. You should check it's 12v just to be sure. Am I right to assume that's a prebuilt hp? Then quality is decent enough.

He pretty much says to get a good quality psu unless you like fireworks. That psu will do nicely but $60 isn't worth it. It's cheaper on newegg.

Or just go with a cheaper psu;

Ok so i just read the box of the gpu and it says it needs a minimum of a 450w psu with a 24A 12V rating but the psu i ordered only is 400w and has a 17A 12V rating, am i gonna have a problem? Will everything still work ok?

If you got the seasonic, it's multirail, 2x 12v rails with 17a each. And if you're talking about a 6450, that can run on a decent 250w psu.
