i have a core i5 760 processor and asus p7h55/usb3 mb.... for past two years i am facing overheating

while ideal its 60c

load 98c

i had my processor replaced and upgraded a new psu corsair

500w.....but still it overheats .....is there anyone help me???

A few things can cause this.

1. The fan may have failed. Can you confirm it is in fact turning.

2. One or more of the heatsink retaining pegs may have popped up. Please confirm ALL are down flush with the board

3. The thermal paste has been disturbed or has lost its effectiveness over the years. In this case, you can remove the stock cooler and try to clean and apply some new stuff.

4. This would be very rare, but maybe the board is feeding too much voltage to the cpu. use a program like HWmonitor to see how much voltage the cpu is getting. 0.80-0.90 idle to 1.15-1.25 is normal(unless you manually set something else.), much more would be a problem.

Joseph DeGarmo and nukemaster thank you for your reply ..... as i said i replaced with a new core i5 760 with the stock cooler, checked all pegs and even applied new thermal paste .......when i called asus service center they said its normal temps only during ideal and load.... i don't get it, 98c is normal....

I had the stock cooler on an i5 750(the 760 was a 100mhz replacment if I remember right.). No way it idled at 60, I think prime95 might have hit 70-75 on stock cooling.

I am almost sure this was stock cooling because aftermarket is cooler. As you can see the idles are much not that high. I mean even with aftermarket idles are not much different because the cpu clocks down.

On that topic. Is your power management set to balanced in Windows?
