Hello,

I am looking for a build that will last 7 years. Please provide parts list with links.

Computer will be used for Gaming, Movies, Homework, Email

Here is what I was thinking:

i7 4770k
AMD R9 280x
16GB RAM
256 GB SSD (Main Drive)
3 TB (Storage)

Case and motherboard needed as well - nothing fancy, would rather money was spent on CPU & GPU.

Thanks for your help
Peter

Revised from above post for CDN. Relatively the same specs anyways. Windows 8.1 vs windows 7 is preference. Going with w8.1 would give you more ram upgrade room if you decide to add more. 16 gb is still enough to last for a long while I'd imagine.

You'll have a smaller Hard drive, but if you're running out of room, you could always add more hard drives. The case should have enough room for more drives to be added.

Here's my suggestion.

The budget would easily be able to fit a r9 290 in. It'll future proof better.

I7 4790k will give you a better future proof compared to the i5, but I'd imagine the i5 would still last quite a while before you'll need an upgrade still.

If you feel like the cpu or gpu would start to slow down the build, there's always the option to overclock.

@blue_smoke the 3tb HDD would future proof more because it would provide plenty of space on the drive to last for a long time.

@OP, you could go with a 1TB drive now and when it starts to fill up, you could add on another 1-2tb hard drive if you would like.
