Hello community! Here's the short of it:
I have this Aspire x1430g that is not working, as a friend got fed up with it. As such, I do not know its history.
When I turn it on there is one short beep. I am then in a DOS like screen reading:
Reboot and Select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key
(pressing a key causes the message to repeat)
When I boot it with a Windows 7 Install CD, I am able to select an "Install Now" button, see that "Startup is Loading..." and choose a type of installation - either Upgrade or Custom.
If I select Upgrade I am instructed to start the computer normally, without the Windows installation disc (not an option).
If I select Custom, I am asked "Where do you want to install Windows?" and given an empty list.
I then of course click the "Load Driver" option, and am told that "To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing...etc..."
I have tried downloading motherboard and hard drive drivers for aspire x1430g from the internet, and have been able to select them from this screen (via USB flash drive), but was told that they did not have whatever the computer was looking for.

I have restored defaults in the BIOS Setup Utility (Del key during startup).
In the Boot Menu (F12) I am given one option: P1: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH70N
I am told the computer had either windows XP or 7 on it, so if acquiring an XP restore disk has seems likely to help, I can attempt to find one. Other than that, I have no idea what it means that the computer cannot find a drive on which to install the Windows 7 OS from the CD I put in.
Thank you for your help!
