Hi, I recently built a PC with a Sapphire Dual-X R9 280X 3GB, 8GB Mushkin Radioactive RAM and an A10 7700K. I had no idea of the term "bottleneck" considering my old system had a HD 5450 and an i3 which had no issues with bottlenecking. My current build however, I am having issues with on some CPU heavy maps on Gmod, theHunter etc etc. I need a good CPU. My budget is 200-250 dollars (AU) and my PSU is 650W. Thanks.

Here are two AMD options. The first just has a slightly less powerful CPU. Everyone says the 8350 is just a factory overclocked 8320, but the truth is that the 8350 has slightly better single core performance. Both overclock well, with the 8350 being a little better.

Here is the same build with the slightly more powerful CPU.

And here is a better performing Intel build. It is about $20 over budget, but will give you better performance and has a much better upgrade path. If it were me, I would pay the extra money and go with Intel. It will be worth it all around.

well what he just gave you was not upgradable or complete. First of all a z97 mobo is needed for upgrading. second you gave him a overclockable cpu with no cpu cooler.

Just because the CPU is overclockable doesn't mean he has to overclock it. He could do that in the future when he needs the extra power. If you don't overclock it, the stock cooler should be just fine. And also, he can't afford the z97 boards.
I could be wrong, but why can't you upgrade with an h87 board?

intel said z97 board are upgradble but rumors have spread 87 boards could do it with bios update but since thats a rumor i've dismissed it.

Much better off buying a good board first, even sacrificing to a sucky CPU, saving up the cash, getting a really good CPU later. So spend the cash for a good z97 now, slap a cheap i3 on it, and when op can afford it bump up to a i5 4690k or even a i7 4790k. Swapping out a CPU is easy compared to the aggravation of swapping out a mobo and CPU twice. A hyper212 is less than $30,so op could get that at anytime, especially if it comes on sale etc.
Oh, btw, the i3 will still be an improvement over the 7700k as hyperthreading actually works wonders on the less powerful i3s, putting them to almost i5 status.

After that, sell the i3 on eBay or wherever and get a few bucks back. The z97 boards will be good for the outcoming Broadwell CPUs, so you could even opt to wait for that, it'll lower the prices of the other CPUs some too. You want to build up to great pc, not have to keep upgrading, and this is the best path. Buying cheaper outdated parts now will eventually having to do it again sooner. This pc'll be good for 5 years or so.

Yea, I would agree with Karadjgne. It makes more sense to get a nice motherboard now and slowly upgrade the CPU later. Especially being on the 1150 socket, you already have a lot of options for CPU's and that will only increase as time goes on.i didnt mean get a slowly upgradable cpu i mean you could upgrade to like a i5 5xxx when they release if you want. a i3 would be a bottleneck to your r9 280x however. a you could get a i5 4690k a decent z97 mobo and get a cooler later this will provide significantly less bottleneck

Thanks, but I literally just finished the build around 3-4 days ago, I know its my fault I chose an ASUS A78M-E Mobo, but I'm really not prepared to change it just yet, If you or anyone else could tell me how I can overclock my A10 7700K on my mobo, because I cannot for the life of me find the clock settings. And other than the A10 7850K, is there any other good CPU's available on the FM2+ socket? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
PS: Sorry for late reply, I was at school.

even the highest end apu will not match a i3 or i5. its a low med type cpu overclocking it to the extreme will provide you with the performance of intel but then the equipment need makes it not worth it. what kind of cooler do you have.

I have the stock cooler for the 7700K, just a side note, I've tried AMD Overdrive, but even increasing the frequency by 100 MHz causes my PC to disable my wallpaper and the color of windows and my FPS freaks out in games, like back and forth from 0-60 fps in a matter of milliseconds.

yeah stock cooler wont overclock well. get a cheap cooler like the hyper evo 212 or a water cooler like the h80i these will overclock. they can also be carried over to any upgrades like if you go amd to intel then you can use the cooler again.
