Hi there, i just bought a new motherboard asus Z97-A and is a bit confused by the sata express and pci-e slots after google for answers.

If i wanted to make use of the the sata express slots for storage, what do i need to plug into the slot? A sata controller which will than be plugged into the sata harddisk?

Also if I make use of sata express port for storage, will it reduce the effectiveness of the pci-e lane for my graphic cards?
Thanks

Sata Express (aka Satae) is a dual design. Plug in a sata drive with a sata cable and it will work fine usin the sata bus. (whichever version its connected to)

Plug in a sata express drive and satae cables and it will use 2 pcie lanes for higher speed than even sata3 can deliver. (theoretical max about 800MB/s)

So as you see, it would benefit SSD's but do nothing for conventional drives.

Oh, so the slot is mostly for ssd. Thanks. Guess i will change my ssd to this slot.
But will it reduce the effectiveness of the pci-e handling my graphic card?
