New rig. It was running perfectly fine, then I received an DPC_WatchdogViolation, which was a BSOD. The computer did not end up restarting itself, rather just sat there at 100%. I tried to reboot via the power and restart button, but nothing. So I ended up turning of the PSU. Then, the computer would not boot what so ever.

The only ways I got it to boot was unplug the power cord, and/or unplug/plug in some wires in the rig, and finally it boot. I went to the BIOS and loaded the default (mind you, I didn't do anything special to the BIOS before this happened.) After that, I updated the BIOS via Gigabyte App, restart. It looked like it was restarting, but instead it sat their, with the power lights on, and everything running. I waited for quite awhile. Nothing.

Same issue happened as stated in paragraph one. I had to do the same thing. Once I got it going again, I loaded the default BIOS. This time I upgraded all my other drivers, and upon restart...same thing. This time, I had to take out the CMOS from the mobo, and put it back in. Thus again, reset the BIOS...

I can shut down fine, it is just when I restart I have this issue. Should I put the BIOS update on a flash drive and try to update it that way? I'm afraid to do anything that requires a restart...

I haven't received a BSOD since...This issue did not start until I had the BSOD. The only things I did different today was plug in my portable HD, and the cable for Ipod.

Could it be a voltage issue? I read someone had to bump their voltage by one. I don't know which voltage they were referring to.

There are dump reading services, and here is the description from Microsoft.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/jj154556(v=vs.85).aspx

From reading it, it's a time-out. THat indicates something on your system isn't responding in a timely manner. THe fact that you now can't start up would indicate that the same components fails during the boot process.

If you're a PC builder, I guess you know the drill... remove as many components as possible, boot, if successful add one more component. tedious and boring. Sorry.

...Why did I bother with a computer.

My originally partspicker had a different gigabyte mobo, but that was RMA. So I bought my current one. This issue only happens when I go to "Restart" as oppose to "Shut Down". I can shut down and turn on just fine. /sigh guess 2morrow I'll be tearing this down, and do piece by piece.

Should have just bought a road bike...

Update: The issue also happens when I put the computer on "Sleep".

So I tore down the computer. I tested the PSU with a paperclip, it runs. Next I plugged in the motherboard...Nothing. With just the motherboard plugged in, nothing. PSU does nothing, case fans do nothing. I plugged in the USB 3.0 to the motherboard, nothing...

Does this mean my motherboard is dead? I still have a few days to RMA it...

Update: I plugged in the Hard Drive. PSU and Hard drive are active.

Plug the PSU into the motherboard with the P1 connector and don't use a paperclip to power it on manually unless you have it unplugged from the motherboard. The hard drive will turn on if the PSU is on because voltage is being supplied to the connector. This really only tells you if your power supply is not dead, since you are not drawing any current off of it. Make sure you have your CPU power (usually 4 pin or 8 pin connector) plugged into the motherboard along with the P1 connector. Make sure all fans are connected to the motherboard, and when doing this definitely make sure your power is not plugged into the PSU, don't want to damage anything.

If your computer does not respond to the power button you may need to check the wiring going from the motherboard pins to the button its self.

As far as having your external hard drive plugged in and your ipod those could cause BSOD's on boot, I have seen it before and had it happen to me recently with a SD card plugged in when I rebooted. Try unplugging all of those devices that have any storage and your ipod and see if the above helps. If your motherboard still isn't powering on the PC when you have the P1 connector and also the CPU 12v 4 pin / 8 pin connector plugged in your motherboard or PSU could be at fault, you would have to test the motherboard with a good supply to find out.

Bored today. Tore it down, rebuilt. Took out CMOS for a few minutes. Turned it on. Went to bios, loaded default. It reboot, screen went to normal windows 8.1 login, but my keyboard/mouse weren't active.

Tried other USB slots. Nothing. Press restart button, nothing. Had to shut off via power switch. Won't turn on now. I removed CMOS again. Waited a few minutes and it turns on for like 5 seconds. Then turns off then turned itself on.

Screen is black (as in not receiving anything) and keyboard/mouse lights not on. A few minutes later, screen is active on bios screen, but keyboard/mouse are not active. I don't think its the PSU as I had it check with a PSU meter. I have a 500w PSU...Do I need more? Partspicker est about 388w needed.

The only way I have had it boot is by removing and inserting the CMOS. But it doesn't work all the time. It is totally random at best.

Keyboard should atleast work if you loaded default settings and were able to get into bios. If you are talking reset button which turns on your computer, press it for 5-10 seconds to shut down your machine, its called a hard shutdown. Mouse and keyboard not working should be resolved after a hard shutdown and reboot, I had it happen the other day.

Keyboard does not work. Mouse does not work. Hard reset does not work. I can sit there all day holding the button. Nothing happens. Just got a replacement, will report back once built.

Swapped in new Mobo. It's up and running. I noticed the bios version is F2 (jan 2014). The default bios version of my other Mobo was F3 (April 2014)...

Should I update the bios via Gigabyte App? I fear updating the bios. I dont want to deal with this again
