Heya,

I've been looking into building my first pc from scratch. After a bit of research this is my current build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/zzjC4D

I don't really plan on overclocking or anything as I have no idea what I'm doing and want to look into it a bit more. All thoughts are welcome!

If you do not plan on overclocking , save money by buying the non K version of the cpu.

I actually meant to do that. Thanks for reminding me!

Since you weren't too keen on overclocking, I don't see the reason to spring for a "k" series Cpu. You could spend 15 dollars more and up the clock speed by 100mhz over this Cpu though, and you certainly have the room in the budget for it. My wife has the z77 version of this motherboard, and it simply works. No need to spend more money imho unless you get a "k" Cpu and would need the z97 chipset.

Solid Ram, no frills here. Didn't include a heatsink because at stock speeds, you really don't need it. If you don't feel comfortable without an aftermarket cooler though, the one you had picked out would be my choice here. Left your case and BD drive as well.

Added a new Psu since there wasn't any reason to purchase the one you had listed. This one is a quality item, and supplies plenty of wattage and amperage for the video card I selected. I actually am using one now, and it's just solid. Changed to Win8.1 because I don't see a reason to purchase 7 anymore. I've been running 8.1 for about as long as it's been out, and have had 0 issues once I put the classic shell on it.

Added a 1TB basic HDD, and changed out the SSD. The Sandisk Extreme II actually got very good reviews, but I usually don't recommend it simply because of price. Right now it's cheaper than the 840 Evo that I'd usually recommend, so it gets my nod.

Biggest change is the video card. This one is cheaper, and will outperform the nVidia 780. I don't see a reason to not get it.

Thank you sir. I will consider this and look into it. Like I said I am VERY new to this world and have only bought/looked at prebuilts and it's obvious I'm throwing away money. Also is your prof. avatar from fallensword?
