Recommended compatible graphics card

Hello all,

I recently found my old computer and it had decent parts but not a dedicated graphics card. I've been wondering what great graphics cards I can get that are compatible with the parts I have in there. It is for gaming so yeh.

Build is: ASUS A55M-A Motherboard, AMD A4-6400K Processor, 8 GB Ram, 550 Watt PSU, 750GB HDD, OS is Windows 8

If there are any recommendations for upgrades please feel free to post them in the comments below.

If you also have any doubts with the build for gaming then I would love yo know about that aswell.

Motherboard Spec - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/A55MA/specifications/ says 1 x pcie2.0 x16 so that's OK for anything.

Next - what make and model power supply?

Then - how big video card will fit in your case? eg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121775 - 8.6in long

Essentially, anything will really go so long as it isn't an extremely high end one and you have enough room in your case.

So the power supply is a PWXT-CP550 Classic Power Supply and issues 550 Watts.

I'd say its pretty old. And not certified. It might also have more than one 12V rail.

I wouldn't trust it to run anything more than a gtx 750Ti.

eg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125502 - which is 204mm long. Would it fit in your case?

I just measured my case and its just under 9 inches wide. Not too sure if I could fit it in there. I might need a case upgrade.

Just looked at the dimensions of the AMD R9 270, would that be ok to put in?

Its not the case width that matters, its the depth - from back to front inside room where the card will sit.

What make and model case?

I am unsure of the case model and make since I bought it off a friend of mine a couple of years ago. What i can tell you is that from the back of the case to the front of the case is approximately 15 inches in length.

15 ins - about 400mm. That's pretty small.

With that power supply, I would only try low power graphics cards like the gtx750ti and gtx 750.

750 - 350W min $120
750Ti - 400W min $150
r9 270 - 450W min $180

You'd need a good 500W power supply eg XFX 550 - $70 for over a 750Ti

Hmmmmm I see. If I were to get the GTX 750ti do you think the gaming potential of the build will be high, medium or low?

Compared to the integrated graphics from the AMD A4-6400K, it would seem like a miracle. But the 750Ti is a mid tier graphics card.
