I am looking to spend about 600-750 on some upgrades for my rig.
I have a few things I would like to reuse from my current setup. I already have:
a pair of ssd's
a pair of 2tb hard drives (one of which I cant use because I am on ITX and there's nowhere to plug it in)
windows 8.1
dvd burner
corsair 770 w modular power supply

I am running an i3 (1155) with 8gb ddr3 1333 ripjaws (2x4gb) with a gtx 660 ti, the ram is descent but I suspect I will need faster.

I do like the corsair obsidian line and the 300d is on sale right now for 99 shipped. But I need some fresh IDEAS! I am obsessing over another Intel because of what I read about single core performance. Are the AMD's really all that slow with single core stuff (browsing, music, writing docs etc?) I didn't think it takes all that much to run those types of tasks.

Games I would like to run ac4, gta 5 and ac unity when it comes out. I am looking to crank up the effects a bit more or maybe a lot more than I currently can.

I see you added the ripjaw 1666 do you think it would make that much of a difference over the ripjaw 1333's I own?
The i5 is really good for gaming still? I was looking at the i7's and they would just blast my budget right out of the water. Thanks for taking the time to help me!

There is a very nice bump in performance moving up from 1333 and unless you are in the business where more cores are needed for gaming the 4690 is the king

Is it even worth considering amd? Seems like I could do more with my money.
No matter how I try to build that system with newegg or amazon I always end up smashing the budget without the mail in rebates that system builder uses. 700 really is my absolute max.

yes amd can be good but we are going for best performance in all games and for that you need intel
