Hi. I don't have alot of knowledge of computers but I'd like a opinion.
My rig has a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P Micro ATX / ATX Power Supply diablotek
GPU GeForce GTX 650 ,CPU AMD Athlon II X4 650 Processor
memory 8.gb RAM.
A friend of mine built it for me, and I mainly use it for gaming (Sims 3 , I write a story ith chars and etc.)
With my game I have alot of downloads and stuff, That I use for the purpose of writing ~ Screenshots go along with it~ Which don't get me wrong the graphics are amazing. But my game is rather slow from all the stuff. I clean out my CC and downloads rather often. But I'd like to have everything smoothly being played with out all the laggy stuff. Along with writing, taking pictures, I'd also like to be able to play the game smoothly without it stopping every minute to load?
I own all TS3 Stuff packs and Expansions and they are all on this computer.

Would I be okay putting a Sapphire Radeon HD 6870 on it? I don't think my friend would have given it to me if my computer wouldn't be able to handle it.

The HD 6870 should be Ok if it fits in your case and your have a good 500W+ power supply.

What make and model power supply is it?

The going price for a 6870 in the US now is about $300. For that you could get a lot of other better cards. How much are you paying for it?

That is a good HDD, but technically outdated (SATA2, 2x 500GB platters). Please download HDtune, test the HDD and post here the screenshot with the results.
