What one is the best? The 760 has more Core and Clock speed but the 280 has more Video RAM.

The 280 is faster.

Negligible difference that is purely determined by what games you play.

The R9 280 does have a small percentage win in most cases though.

You can compare those two here: http://www.hwcompare.com/17665/geforce-gtx-760-vs-radeo...

But with a little more money, you can get the Asus R9 280x DCUII Top. You can try Amazon Prime free for 30 days and then you can get this for $314. That's already with shipping and one day delivery from them.

Please avoid using superficial "benchmarks" like that one. Instead use real world comparisons that give a lot better indication of ACTUAL performance.

This is the only quick comparison I would suggest using, although it can be outdated at times.

I went to that website. I don't even see an R9 280 on the drop down menu.

I even went to GPUboss http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-R9-280-vs-GeForce-GTX-76...
Their benchmarks show that these two cards are neck to neck when compared to each other.

The HD7950 Boost and R9 280 are exactly the same chip with just a new name, thats why not all sites have it listed.
I don't trust GPUBoss either, they are better these days, but they have a lingering bad reputation.

Well i do not want to overclock anything so there is no need to get the R9 280X. But will the R9 280 be well on running skyrim with mods?

The R9 280 is fine at 1080p. Even with heavy modding.

Yes it will. The 3GB will definitely help the game. I've got the Sharpshooter Classic ENB and it's utilizing the GPU so much better than my old 760. My 280x was always on 80% to 90% with that ENB. Haven't tried the game without that ENB.

Ps. I've bought the 280x just for Skyrim also haha. So I know exactly how you feel.

I'm pretty sure you can run Skyrim on ultra settings. The 280 and the 280x aren't that far away from each other when it comes to game performance. Probably couple of fps. But nothing significant. You can play the game with 8x MSAA and 16x AF.

I'm not sure what you're asking. If you're asking if it can take anti-aliasing? Yes, it sure can.

I went to AMD from NVIDIA because I wasn't satisfied with NVIDIA's performance. The cheapest 770 you can get is around high $300. But with the competitor R9 280x? It's only cheap and these two cards go neck to neck with each other. AMD wins price to performance ratio no matter what.

Not at all. Price to performance changes every few weeks. Thats why Toms has this monthly list of updated best for the price GPUs.

But you have to agree though.

R9 270x = GTX 760
R9 280x = GTX 770
R9 290 = GTX 780
R9 290x = GTX 780ti

These are the cards that I see that compete with each other. But with a couple of FPS down? Is the price from 780ti really worth it compared to R9 290x?
That's what I meant with price to performance ratio.

Your perfectly right, but because prices change, especially the first few months following a cards release, its not set in stone.

At the moment however, AMD cards are priced VERY aggressively and thats why you feel this way. :)
A few months ago, when LiteCoin went insane, AMD cards were INSANELY expensive, then Nvidia had the best price/performance.

You're right. Good thing I wasn't in a need of a new graphics card back then when mining made AMD cards expensive hahaha.

The R9 is better, although I believe the 760 is a more consistent and trustworthy card for gaming.

Yeah, no problems. My friends play with NVIDIA, and one of them was using an R9 280 and now he says if he changes to a 760, it will make a big difference in the consistency of getting a no lag game. That's is his opinion. And I think is a great idea.

I guess to each their own opinion. But in my point of view? Get the card that can give you the performance you need, at the price you can afford.

No offence taken, but when saying stuff like that, I would suggest you tell us why and what you have to prove this?
Since I own 2 x HD7950 Boost cards (HD7950 Boost is basically a R9 280).
I also own a GTX660ti in another machine, which was the direct competitor to the HD7950.

I don't know how to explain in detail. But my friend plays with a R9 290x on games like BF4, Watch Dogs, Hardline, Titanfall, CS GO and many more. But he couldn't see the "kick" in there so he thought of moving on to a 760 which gave him the significant boost in detail.

So I watch a few youtubers (anonymous) playing the same game with a 770 and a 290x. The 770 turned out to be a better card than the 290x.

So that was how I concluded. I am a witness but do not own it.
