i have a quick quesion

my current specs are

msi z97 pc mate
i5 4690
msi gtx 760
520watt neo eco psu

My motherboard has a 8pin atx pin connector thing located on the top left of the motherboard, if you click on the following link you will see what I'm talking about..

http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z97_PC_Mate.html#hero-overview

when i connect a 4 pin to it, the computer powers up but when i also connect an 8 pin, the computer also powers up

so my question is, do i need all 8 pins connected or is 4 sufficient enough

Thanks

8 pin is rated to safely deliver twice as much power as 4 pin for CPU power connectors, 288W versus 144W IIRC.
The manufacturers of your hardware will always recommend that you use only true 8 pin connectors.
You will be held liable if something goes wrong.
It is best to simply make sure that you have enough power for the CPU. If it uses say 130W or more, then it's best to use an 8 pin slot and an 8 pin connector. Any less for CPU power consumption and it doesn't really matter.
but still strongly recommend to use the 8 pin ...........
