only fan at top speed, monitor doesnt even come on.. iv been trying to update an install drivers for internet for audio, video controller etc.. which is strange cos windows xp professional has only just been downloaded an installed on this computer. anywho, all its doing now is when i turn it on it beeps 3 times then 1 time then 4 times an then 3 times.. surely this must tell somebody wats wrong with my machine??

Well, you read the manual and compare the beep codes in there with what you hear and can find out where the issue may be. Then replace the possible bad parts.

Also check the motherboard, you very likely have bad capacitors which is what is causing the issue. You can replace the motherboard in that case although if you know what you are doing you can also just replace the caps, but going by your post you need to just replace the motheboard.

Just because you installed XP does not mean you don't need to install drivers from the vendor. Windows does not have hardware drivers for many systems.
