im getting my gaming build in the next two weeks
ive chosen the msi z87 g45 gaming mobo
but some have recommended the z97
i plan to pair it with a gtx 770 2 gb

i aslo want my mobo to be sli capable
i do not intend to upgrade the cpu for 3 years atleast
the only upgrade i intend to do is adding on another gtx 770 in sli when higher resolution monitors become more affordable

the only advantage i know of the z97 is that it will be compatible with the next gen intel cpus
but since i dont intend to upgrade for 3 years
does it make sense to sned the extra buck on a z97 mobo
since there will be a lot of new cpus and mobos in the market after 3 years
the z97 will be outdated by then

Up to you. The Z97 is generally around the same price, but the Z87 is fine. Z97 also has support for SATA Express which if you don't care about, then Z87 is fine. There are a few other features like Boot Guard and Rapid Storage. There are probably others that I'm forgetting.

The price difference between z87-z97 on most boards is like $10. You might as well just upgrade to the z97 chipset. Broad well will run on z97 but it probably will not on z87..but if you're intending to upgrade for 3 years it probably won't matter.
