Both the 780 and Ti cost considerably more than the R9 290. I could get 2 290s for crossfire for around the same price as the 780 Ti.
Either that or get the 770 for the same price (2GB model)
Is Nvidia Gameworks APIs and Gamestream worth the extra price since AMD now have build-in video recording on their cards due to Gaming Evolved. I would also have to pay £250 for a shield tablet on top of that for game stream.
in your opinion, are these two features worth the extra price over the 290 for 1080p gaming?

BTW I will be getting a 290 with the WindForce cooler and will be overclocking it.

Would like to hear your thoughts
Thanks for the responses. Much appreciated

Then I would go with the R9 290. Just does what it says on the tin, no extras to try and justify a larger price.

The 780 and R9 290 are on par for 1080p performance. While the R9 290 performs better at higher resolutions. The GTX 780 Ti is, in my opinion, one of the best GPUs avaliable. That being said, you can get two R9 290s for the same price. Its only worth it if you have the extra money to spare. The Nvidia extras are considered either to be wonderful features or terrible marketing ****. I personally find most of their stuff to me terrible marketing ****. But the odd feature does stand out.

So it comes down to this-
Would you rather save a substantial amount of cash with the R9 290 and have better performance at higher-res, or pay a premium for features you may not end up liking?

Tried to stay unbiased during this. GTX 780 Ti all the way if you can 'easily' afford it. Its not worth the premium if you are going to skip on this months payments for it.

Basically what the dude above said. If you are swimming in cash 780ti all the way, otherwise 290/x is great.

That said, higher resolution thing is like a unicorn type of things - the performance for 290 may get higher, but it will end up being one piece of shit against the other piece of shit (woohoo my 25FPS beat your 22FPS), since single GPUs of today are not really good at higher resolutions still. Next gen it's gonna change, not now.

Not going to lie, this post made me laugh. At 1440p the 290 can do a bit better on certain games, but I understand what you mean. When going Crossfire vs SLI, the 290 still pulls ahead by a more substantial amount.

I just want to play games at 1080p ultra with no hassle over extras. Just want to get down and play games. Is r9 290 ok for that then?
Loved the response by the way, Nvidia is like the apple of the graphics cards
