I delidid my i7 4790k . I used cooler master thermal fusion 400 thermal paste . i put a lot of thermal paste in between the hs and the die . should i have put the thinnest layer of thermal paste possible in between the hs and the die ? also i ordered gelid gc extreme . would it be worth my time to reseat the hs to the die using gelid gc extreme paste ?

I fixed my delid using coollaboratory liquid pro in between the die and the hs I also used coollaboratory liquid pro in between the hs and the heat sink and my temps went down a total of 18c

but did I apply the thermal paste to the die correctly ? I just but a big glop of paste and spread it around . also I was told for the best results I should use a liquid metal paste . do you know of any other liquid metal paste besides coollaboratory liquid pro and ultra ?

I'm not sure delidding a CPU, that was "refreshed" specifically for the purpose of enticing the enthusiast market by using a better thermal interface material than they had used on Ivy and Haswell (which is why some people delidded those) was really very smart, but...to each their own I guess.

And yes, the Liquid Pro and Liquid Ultra is the ONLY thing I would use when delidding.

"A glop of thermal paste and spread it around".... You didn't research it any better than that before tearing apart your $300+ processor, and killing the manufacturer warranty? lol

my temps went down 15c from applying the coollaboratory in between the hs and the die and it went down another 3c when I applied the coollaboratory in between the hs and the heat sink so I got a total of 18c temp drop . before I applied the coollaboratory in between my hs and my heat sink I had gelid gc extreme applied . so if you are going to use coollaboratory to mount your cpu cooler you will only see a 3 to 4c temperature drop . the big temperature drop happens when you apply the coolaboratory in between the die and the hs
