I recently went from an FX 8350 to a 4790k. Not considering that the 8350 is almost 2 years old now, I can't believe I put up with it for so long, my computer is noticeably faster in EVERY regard, and by a significant margin. Even considering I had my 8350 overclocked to 4.9Ghz, my 4790k does everything twice as fast at the same speed.

same here as Drew010 but went i5 4670 first time intel build in 14 years and now amd would have to pull a rabbet out of there hat to get me back.. next faze is to go NVidia on a card and completely wash my hands of amd --

because of the r9 290 the amd will get better performance in most games i would just save up and get the intel with the 290

in graphics cards dont believe the hype the amd cards are just as good as nvidia you just trade in amd problems for nvidia ones and physx is not a huge factor

its not like the future is moving towards multi core support. The i5 would be the better choice in regard to upgrade path, clearly. But if those were the only two options locked in for the next 5 years, i would go with the FX over the i5.

really??? look at all the threads here at toms with the -r- cards way out number the the NVidia
I'm running amd card now with no issues 7000 series with 13.4 drivers but go got to admit that something is wrong with the new drivers and cards as they say the writing is on the wall on this now looking over all these threads and seeing this would I spend $300 on a amd card with all these threads coming in on them or NVidia that has a few but not near as many ??
I never had a issue with amd but here lately ???

Well.... I'd have to disagree. Eventually developers will NEED to use more cores, even up to 8, so FX is future-proof. :-P

I have got a pc with fx 8350 no oc and i Have a friend of mine that has an i5-4670 with r9 280x (me too). I really very surprised that in this thread all the people went to intel... Im not saying you cannot ... your Behaviour is like "AMD FX 8XXX processors suck" and "Intel is a GOD! Their processors are too strong for ultra-low-end cpu's like fx processors...". But you're right... In my build i get 80 fps in Battlefield 4 mp and my friend gets 84/85... it's 5 more frame... you have to buy a +£50 processor because you can have 5 more fps... I hate these things... The reality is that Intel is better, but AMD is great too, People just hate amd cpu... what's there ?

Amd is very worth it when gotten for a great deal. BF4 is very very amd friendly try saints row 4 on both of your pc's or planetside 2 and you will see why your freinds is the better pc. But amd does make great cpus they just have to be used for what are their strong points the great thing about intel is everything is its strong point thats why its worth the extra money. But if you can get a 8350 for $129 or less then i would get it 90% of the time.
