After new graphics card installation gpu and cpu fans stopped spinning system won't boot

PS-cooler master thunder 500W

Problem

Recently I got an NVidia GTS 250 from my friend. After connecting the graphics card and its power connectors the computer won’t boot. The CPU fan and gpu fan stopped spinning after a very short time. I changed that graphics card with my existing NVidia 9400gt then there is no problem and the computer working normally. My friend said that the GTS 250 is in perfect condition and he didn’t feel any problem. So what will be the problem?

Something could have happened to the card since you've gotten it from your friend. Make sure the pins are clean in the PCI-X slot and the card is clean. Try putting the card back in again in case it just needed to be re-set (cause there might have been a pin contact issue) and see if that works. If that doesn't work, try putting the card back into the friends computer to see if it work in that computer - that will tell you for sure there isn't anything wrong with the card.

The power supply in my friend's system is a stock one which is coming along with the cabinet and also 450w. So i think power supply is not a problem..

Have you tried testing it in another computer yet to see if it works? We need to eliminate that the card isn't broken.
Also, just because the power supply says its 500 W doesn't mean it can handle a lot of power for a long time, or large fluctuations in power. I can run 600 Watts of power out of a 500 W gold rated power supply constantly for a very long time where as if I run only 500 Watts from a 500 W power supply that isn't rated bronze, silver, or gold, it will die way before the rated one will - or even not be able to consistently put out that much power.

Sorry it was auto correct lol. What I meant to say was you may have given your motherboard a static shock. Although I reread it and it said that it works when you switch them back. I recently installed a new graphics card and I had a similar problem. I installed I would boot up past the windows logo and I got a black screen. I would switch to my gtx 660 and it works. So what u did was used my 660 to Crete a partition and save my files I wanted. Then I booted I to the windows cd and reinstalled my os when I did that windows always installes drivers for your hardware (get the latest from manufacture website)

Althought it could also be a fault graphics card because the fan is bit spinning. I am not sure if that is what lower end cards do when booting but if it is a faulty card get a refund and a new one. If it is not try to reinstall windows after backing up files when using your old graphics card.

Do NOT do this - you do NOT have to re-install Windows for this problem. You're wasting your time. You're having a power issue. I'm not sure why you haven't tried what I suggested. Or even replied to what I said. Do you want this fixed?

Hey you got a faulty GPU, pls chck the GTS 250 by installing on sme other computer to make sure that GPU is fault or otherwise your PSU have issue other than that nothing is wrong wit your system... Most according to me nvidia GTS 250 is gone... Even recently i brought a new similar PSU with Asus amd radeon R7 260x and i got a faulty GPU.... Got the GPU replace and its wroking fine... dont do windows re-installation even i had did the same thing...

Better check the Graphic card and also check out the power required for your system on this website you can verify it http://www.pc-specs.com/
