Asus m5a97 r2.0 , Amd fx 6300 No post , no beep , no display

hi , i just built my first pc , here is the config , Asus M5A97 R2.0 mobo , AMD Fx 6300 , Asus Gtx 770 , corsair 2x 4gb DDR3-1600 dimm ram, Corsair vs650 psu.

And it doesnt boot , no post , no beep , (there might be a beep , but cant say for sure because i dont think the mobo has a speaker) , no display , tried hdmi and dvi ,
all the fans spins , they do till i turn it off , tried with one ram stick , triple checked all connections ,

i read someplace that it might need a bios update for my processor to be compatible , if it does i hope " M5A97R20.CAP" is the right filename for the update file via bios flashback , could anybody help me with the situation ?

additional details ,

my dvd burner doesnt respond , as in the tray doesnt eject nor does the light light up

the reset button doesnt work

also noticed a slight flickering on the cabinet fan leds( corsair carbide spec-02) , wonder if its a psu issue

counting on all of your infinite wisdom, Thanks :)

  1. Did you look at your manual about the led lights on the motherboard? those will help you with some of the problem solving. Your motherboard most likely has the the update to work with any fx chip up to the 8350. As long as you didn't buy the board from ebay, or any other store other than amazon, newegg, or tigerdirect, your board will have the update already installed. This is normally the guide that I refer anyone who has bought a computer from me in the last 5-10 years that is no longer under the 1 year warranty http://pcsupport.about.com/od/findbysymptom/ht/nopowertopc.htm
  2. Do you have the power connected at the top of your motherboard i think yours is a 4 or 8pin

If you have something like an old computer that you don't plan on using anymore you probably could salvage a speaker, or I think you can buy them for like $1 at a lot of places. Normally motherboard or any other problem normally something will happen like the fans with turn the lights will come on but you won't get any kind of post. I'm pretty sure though at this point it is your power supply. There are normally a few things that you can do you can smell the power supply when you turn on your system, and see if any weird smells come out of it, kind of like a new smell is normally fine and will go away after a few days, but a sulfuric or burnt smell normally means something bad is going on. The vs series is known to be somewhat bad, but to be honest most doa stuff happens from bad employees of shipping companies handling your stuff. I would rma it for a refund and then buy a different model as well as make sure that the company that delivered your stuff originally doesn't get used again.
  7. if you still have your mobo box look in there for the speaker or in a place where you put all the extra parts
  8. Don't want to hijack thread, but i think it would be beneficial

I have a problem like ifkifk is talking about, for reference.

  9. its really hard to diag a computer with looking at it, best bet is to find a speaker and listen to the beeps, if its staying on with no output i would use a different cable and make sure your gpu is seated properly. it just sounds like you didnt plug everything up make sure everything is connect the 24pin and the 8pin and the power for your gpu is all proper. also make sure all your mobo screw are in and are snug
  10. They already said that they checked all of the cables and they installed them correctly, the video card, the memory, and the processor would not cause a problem like this. Even a dead motherboard still would show some sign of life as far as the fans and even the led lights on the front of the case would still work. The only problem that this could be is the power supply.
  11. Well if you have and extra power source or a buddy that can loan you one try it out
