Civ 5 bad performance, but good performance on BF4... Why?

I have recently bought the Lenovo Y50 with the 4k screen and the top specs(16 gb ram, 860m 4 gb, 512 SSD, ect.) and on BF4, I get about 40 or so frames on Ultra settings, but when I play Civ 5 and when I start up a new game, I get crappy frames when starting a new world. I only get good frames when I set everything to low, but after I save my game and come back after a few hours and re open my game, it lags some more and I have to set the settings even lower. I also get a warning message after playing for about an hour to close my game to save system memory, when the windows task manager at this time says im only using 5 gb of ram out of 16 gb. These messages come up every half to an hour or so, and after a few of these messages are shown, my background on my desktop turns to the windows menu color and it does not allow me to access anything on my desktop until I sign out and sign back in. Is there anything else that I can do to fix my performance in Civ 5? I'm pretty surprised that I can get great frames in BF4, but crappy in Civ 5. Anything that I can try?

Also as a side note, I have set my windows resolution from 4k to 1920X1080 to fix the windows 8 scaling issues, and my Civ 5 resolution is at 1920X1200 to get it to fit properly in my screen.

ALSO, the Y50 comes with a lot of bloatware, and I have not taken the time to remove it yet.

More about civ bad performance good performance bf4
  1. Civ 5 is quite a performance hog even on top notch computers. There's not much to be done about it. Thankfully it's not a twitch based game

So basically Civ 5, a game made a couple of years ago, still requires more performance wise than games like BF4, and there may be nothing I can do about it? If that's the case, that sucks...

    I <3 Civ :(

Note: I have looked around and other people have been saying that they get great performance in Civ 5 on max settings. So did I get shafted or is there something I am missing...

I don't know what you guys are talking about, my civ5 runs perfectly on my computer which is not even considered to be a very high end system.

What you need to do is try to run it at directX 11 mode, also make sure you installed the visual c++ redistributables that come packaged with the game.

It slows down quite a bit towards the end of the game. It's worst when the entire map is uncovered and there are a lot of players with a lot of assets. It's mostly due to the complexity of the logic, not the graphical settings.
