computer won't boot at all

Today I installed a CD/DVD drive and an HDD into my computer. It worked fine before, but now I can't even get the fans to spin! I will provide more details if needed

Did the new components take IDE or SATA connectors? IDE being the older, very wide sets of cables; SATA being thinner, "L" shaped connectors.

Also, since it's probably SATA, how many components are connected to the same SATA strip? 3-4 devices? You may have too many components on one SATA line.

if your fans are not spinning then the red flag goes to the psu... check with a different psu to make that sure....

They are SATA, but there are only two per cable. I noticed that the fans spin one rotation when I plug it in, but the power button doesn't seem to do anything.

That's a possibility, albeit an unfortunate one. Did you happen to unplugg anything else? Some system specs, or better yet, a well-lit picture of your case's cable management!

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YjtcRB those are my specs. I don't have a spare PSU anywhere to try that out. I did unplug the front panel connectors, but I plugged them back in the way the motherboard manual states.

The mother board and case have different ways of color coding things, and they don't always match up. That's probably the problem! Plug them in according to how their labelled and how the motherboard is labelled. PWSW to PSW, HDD LED to HDD, etc

While the plugs themselves are labeled jfp1 isn't labeled on the motherboard. According to the instructions it goes PW led, PW, HDD, then reset switch, but it doesn't do anything. Its weird because this was the setup I think I was using when it still worked.

just take a screw driver and short those sockets to run your pc if its a cable or switch problem it then u will know by doing this...

Shorting it with a screwdriver didn't do anything. I assume that means a part isn't working, probably the PSU, right?

yes as i have mention that earlier the psu is faulty or dead so replace it if you have the warranty or buy a 550 watt psu of seasonic or xfx .......

That's not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the help. Is it normal that a PSU might die after only a couple days of usage?

Yes, many items arrive DOA, or die shortly afterwards. You should be able to RMA it, if you recently bought it from a reputable source.

yes it may die or was a faulty one with manufacturing defect .....and the cx series are not at all reliable psu at least for gaming, its not good while handling loads and comes with poor capacitors...
