How do I throttle my internet?

I will be moving in the next few months. Where I am moving I will be lucky if I can get internet speeds of 10 Mbps down and 3 Mbps up. I would like to throttle my internet connection for a few days to see how the difference will feel for my day to day activities. Could someone please tell me if it is possible to throttle my connection from my router. I currently have a Nighthawk R7000 router. Thanks in advance for all the great replies.

You should be able to throttle it through your router... You'll probably have to look around for the traffic control and what not.

Otherwise you could use netlimiter or something if you want something that's software based.

If your modem is 10/100, you could force the WAN port of the router to 10Mbit. That would limit your download speed. Otherwise you would have to use QOS controls in the router to throttle.
