Windows Not Responding After Startup

Windows freezes shortly after startup. I haven't been able to narrow down exactly what caused it, but here are a few scenarios when it happened:

First time, I was downloading a game on Steam and get a Windows error message (I was pressing enter as it popped up, so I accidentally closed it immediately). Shortly after that, Steam stopped responding, so I hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE to task manager shut it down, but as soon as I hit those 3 keys, Windows itself stoppped responding entirely, no mouse movement, no keyboard, nothing. I hard reset to get the computer back up and running.

Several minutes pass, I load up Skype no problem, Steam autostarts and things are going smoothly. After about 15 minutes, Steam stops responding again without any error message. Same event as above.

Once the computer is back up again, I hit the start button. That also causes Windows to crash.

Now, as soon as I start the computer up, the programs I have on autostart can't even finish loading before the entire system locks up and I have to hard reset it.

I know I'm no computer expert, but I thought I knew enough to get myself around most basic problems, but I'm not entirely sure where to start here.

Some basic specs: Windows 7 64bit
Intel Core I7 processor
nVidia GTX 760 video card
900W power supply

Let me know if there's anything else you need, I'll get it if I can. I doubt I can run any diagnostic programs or scans on my desktop, though. :(
