This was my first build so I don't really have much knowledge on hardware. A year ago, I made my first build. After I was finished with building it, I forgot to plug in power to my graphics card. So then I went through the process of installing Windows 8 without having power to my graphics card. When playing games, I noticed how crappy and laggy the games were. A year later, now I noticed that the PCI-E was not connect to the GPU all along. But whenever I plug in the PCI-E cord to my graphics card, all it would show is a black screen. Without the PCI-E, the computer would function normally. All that time it was reading the graphics from my processor. Now I want attempt to disable the graphics of my processor and try to enable my graphics card.

SPECS:

P8B75-V ASUS Motherboard

950V Powersupply

GTX 650TI

1 TB Hard Drive

i3- 2100

Windows 8

Thanks!

Normally motherboards switch to dedicated graphics if it is detected. Have you plugged it in yet? If you have and it still isn't using the dedicated graphics, you can edit this in the motherboard's BIOS. You'll see what key to press when you boot up your computer(it can be F8,F9,F10,F11,or F12). It's normally labeled setup.

I forgot to mention that whenever I plug in my PCI-E to my GPU, all I would have is a black screen.

The monitor needs to be plugged into the card. Plugging it in the mobo is the igpu.

That could be the issue too. I didn't think of that.

I'm still just trying to process what happened.

Did you have the VGA/DVI cable plugged into the video card or the motherboard?

As I'm typing this right now, the VGA cable is connected to the motherboard. I've once connected the VGA cable to the back of the graphics card with the adapter, it came out in a weird resolution and couldn't play anything. My GPU at the moment is not connected to PCI-E, currently using the Intel HD Graphics.

Did you install the nvidia driver?

I can't install the nvidia driver because it needs to detect the graphics card. The graphics however is currently detecting the Intel HD Graphics instead of my GTX 650 TI.

Yeah, it will put it into a weird low resolution, because it needs to run off the Windows fallback drivers. Download the drivers for it on the card's manufacturer's website, and then it will reboot and everything will look normal.
