My friends have a HP Pavilion 500-023W. I just purchased a new graphics card (R9 270). I tried everything, however when I boot the computer, all I get is a blank screen, no response. The card powers on, but there is no display to be seen. I tried disabling the onboard video and rebooting, I tried installing the drivers prior to the card. I just cannot get it to work. Do store bought/hp desktops just not allow additional upgrades?

Please help. I am extremely frustrated with this, and I really want this to be done with. I appreciate any input. I am at the point of smashing the computer.

Thanks again for your time.
Matthew

Also, just look up your comptuer and it only has a 300w PSU. That might not be enough for the board and hte GPU.

Hello... What type of cable are you trying to use to your monitor? have your plugged into each of the different connector types on the Video card? Have you set your Monitor to display that type of connection?

Hi guys. I'm sorry. I forgot to mention that I already had an EVGA 500 power supply installed prior to this. Also, I did have the 6 pin cable plugged in. Not sure what is wrong.

Sometimes you need to change pcie mode to legacy.

Have you set first boot device to PEG, or pcie?

@maxa
Where do I find those options to change the way the computer boots?

@monkey
Thanks everyone for the help. No, they're just as confused and frustrated as I am. I know a little bit about stuff like this, but I most certainly am not tech savvy. They are inviting another friend over tomorrow to try to figure it out. Hopefully he can straighten it out. He said he had a similar problem, so I think there's a good shot he'll get it.
I'd like to keep the thread open for further suggestions. All help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much guys, hope they can get gaming soon! :)
