Hello everyone I just wanted some feedback on a CPU for a gaming pc which I'm building I am on a tight budget of $500 and I am wondering if this would be a good CPU.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681...

I originally wanted to get the AMD Athlon as I new that was a good CPU but the set up I currently have put together is not compatible with the AMD Athlon :( .

Thanks for all of your input it is greatly appreciated.

It's not the worst nor the best, but I would go a bit with my first i3 build:

Just add a case and a CPU cooler.
Hope I helped!

That processor is actually really good for gaming right now and has even been compared to some i5's

The new g3258 is actually better than the i3 I believe. It's overclockable so it's able to get more out of the price, makes it good for low budget builds.

Well, if you want to game on it, depends if you get a GPU. If you don't, go for the i3. If you do, if you get the G3258, make sure to have sufficient cooling.

Hope I helped!

What are you talking about? The stock cooler is more than enough for that CPU, getting an aftermarket CPU is a big waste since I doubt he'll overclock.

With the g3258, the stock cooler would probably still do well in overclocking. The TDP is low and I'd imagine it wouldn't get as hot as an i5 anyways. If it does get too hot, just add on a CM 212 evo or something. It'll do just fine.

What are you talking about? Stock is barely enough, and not if the CPU is OCed. At least a Hyper 212 EVO would be good.

You do realize we're not talking about an i5 or i7 here, an aftermarket cooler is overkill for this CPU, not to mention this is a laptop and the hyper 212 evo wouldn't even fit....

Your title is very misleading :p

That processor is perfect for your needs, although it'd be nice to know what your other parts are :)

I have the AMD Athlon x4 760k and it's actually a little worse than the G3258 and the G3258 is cheaper :p

This CPU I would like to put with this graphics card do you guys think it will bottleneck the GPU:

Try and go for a 260x instead of that for a little better performance. Bottlenecking is a misused term and you wont have to worry about it at all :)

Don't worry about any bottlenecks.

If there was any bottleneck in your system, we'd let you know anyways :)

The pentium + a decent board like the asrock extreme3 would easily outdo that build. Just saying. Not to mention it'd be cheaper.

I have a build set up already which is similar but I was having problems finding a good GPU which would fit into my budget, the one in your build is cheap but is it good is the question.

im going to post the build in another thread later if you want to see it and give feedback.

The gpu is an entry level gpu, it'll play games on medium settings 30fps+ in most cases. Maybe in older games you'll be able to get more out of it, but for the most part, its a 1gb card and an entry level card.
