I'm trying to build a budget gaming computer and I bought the G3258 before looking at the motherboard compatibility list.

I can't find a single affordable motherboard that is compatible with the G3258 without a bios update. Since I don't have another LGA 1150 these models won't do.

Any suggestion that would allow me to maximize my investment? At this point I could return the CPU but I would have to pay for restocking fee and shipping so I dont realy want to do that.

well given that the cpu itself is 75$ I was hoping for a budget motherboard. it doesn't make sense spending 150$ on a motherboard for a budget build. otherwise I would be better returning my cpu and buying a supported cpu for a higher price.

H87M-E BIOS 2001
Support Intel® Pentium® Anniversary Edition CPU (G3258).
contact newegg pre sale or where your buying the mb with asus the last 4 numbers of the mb serial number is the bios rev. also contact asus help you when the mb your look for was loaded with the new bios file by the date code of the mb,

It is not clear form the manufacturer website if the loaded bios will be able to boot with the G3258. As I explained i have no ability to flash the bios in advance unless I find a loaner cpu to update the motherboard first.

OK I'll try to contact newegg pre sale. I already purchased the H81M-K from them but it is sitting unopened. The serial number ends with D652008 wich doesn't look at all like their bios versions (latest being 0805)

Yes I understand which bios it will boot from. What I can't tell is which bios is loaded on the factory motherboard. without an older CPU I can't actually install the newer bios. Also, all the z97 boards which are compatible out of box are in the 150$ to 200 $ range which is ridiculous. I might as well shell 150$ for the cpu and 75$ for the motherboard and would get much better bang for the buck

I am also interested in finding out the cheapest mobos that will work with the g3258 oob and also are capable of OC

The x97 boards tend to destroy the economy of the chip, so any confirmations of other boards working (and overclocking) is welcome
