That's tough for $500, you'd have to make some massive compromises. Particularly if you're targeting games like Battlefield & Titanfall.

Do you have a monitor?
Do you have a Windows (Retail) License?
Do you have any old parts you can salvage (a HDD, a case, PSU from an old machine perhaps?)

The issue you face when you're looking at a low budget like $500 is that for every component you look at, throwing an extra $20-$50 will get you massive performance increases.
I think an $800-900 build is likely to be close to three times the performance of a $500 build despite being less than half the price... that's the reality of low budget builds.

That's why I'm asking what you can salvage from another PC, 'cause every extra $ you can spend on CPU & GPU is going to net you a significantly better system.

The other option if you really are starting from scratch would be to pick up an old ex-lease Dell or HP, and add a decent but low power video card like a GTX 750ti. That gets you a full system, and a windows license and you could possibly do that for around the $300-$350 mark (without a monitor). That'd net you playable, low-medium settings on the latest games right away, but you could then start saving for a better build if you wanted to.

If you have a monitor, keyboard, and OS, I would recommend this for a little over $500:

If you cannot go even a little bit above $500, you can cut the r9 265 to a 260. This should play most games on at least medium.
