Heres the deal. I've been offered a Titan Black 6gb new tomorrow for €550. I still have to make sure I can clear the funds with the bank in the morning. If I don't buy it tomorrow it will be gone to someone else.

I'm currently running an iMac 780m 4gb and performance is ok but it doesn't support 2D Surround so I'm doing a rapid PC build in the next week or so. I'm running hi res triples (7680x1440 at about 45fps on Assetto Corsa) so Vram is important therefore a standard Ti won't do the trick.

Now I hear Maxwell could be mid-august (not known if its a launch or simply NV showing off). If you were me what would you do. Buy the Black or hang back?

Solution
with such a good price, id say go with the titan. once maxwell comes out the prices should drop some, so in the future you can sli them if you need more performance.

but i agree with The Builder, if you can wait until november/december using your imac, the new maxwell gpus should be interesting.

if you do decide to wait and maxwell isnt what nvidia said it was gonna be, you can still get a titan black, probably for less too

That is a very good price for a GTX Titan Black. If your iMac can handle your work for a few more months, it will be interesting to see what Maxwell brings to the table. Last I heard, NVIDIA won't be releasing their flagship GTX 880 and GTX 870 until Novemeber though. That's assuming that they face no setbacks.

Gtx 780ti would still be better even at that resolution. Maybe sli gtx 780 6 gb is what you need but would be better at that resolution and cost more. Waiting on until Maxwell is also a good idea since that resolution is so demanding that 2x 780ti would be reduced to medium.

Thanks for the replies, info and help guys. Much appreciated. I ended up paying via paypal for the Titan Black in the end. Even if its last gen in 5 months it should still go like shit off a stick compared to my iMac and sure I can always sell it later on if needed, possibly to comeone in pro graphics who would appreciate the double precision.

Now I just have to hope hes not a fraudster (paypal secures anyway) and build the rest of the rig. My 1st in 10yrs. Its been too long. Cheers.
