Is my CPU too old?

Hi everyone, a few weeks ago I decided to let my Ps3 go and take back PC gaming (where my roots are :)), and I realised it had gone out of date.

I purchased an Asus GTX 770 along with a new 650W PSU (which I think will be enough), a new hard drive... but I'm worried about the CPU not being able to give good results. It's a 2009 Intel Xeon x3470, clocked at 2.93GHz if I'm not mistaken. The socket it uses is also pretty rare (1156), so I should probably get a new motherboard too.

I'm interested in playing games like Far Cry 3, Battlefield 3 and 4, maybe Far Cry 4 and GTA V (once they are launched).

Kind regards

LGA1156 is a little old but that should still be good enough for most modern games.

If you do not feel like putting down cash up-front for a whole system upgrade, using the GTX770 in your current system for the time being so you can gauge how much of a bottleneck your current CPU is would be fine IMO - upgrading stuff when and only when a given performance aspect starts grating my nerves is my favorite way of picking what to upgrade next: this way, I do not feel buyer's remorse from picking something a little more expensive than necessary.

It's not overly old, it's still a pretty decent CPU although it's slightly slower than an i5 4440. I'd go for a new CPU, the core i5 4440 would be a perfect choice, or even an AMD 8350
