I have an AMD Athlon x4 760k and my idle temps never got below 50, my vcore is at 1.4v, is this too high? I'm going to scrap this CPU soon but I was thinking of giving it to a friend but don't want to give it to him in the condition it is in now.

More about : vcore high

What are you reading that temp with? And is it core temp, CPU temp?

I use HWmonitor to check my temps as Speedfan seems to kill my PC instantly (No idea why)

This is my temps as of 15 seconds ago:

I just noticed it seems to go down to around 59 then instantly shoot up to somewhere like 80c

No its not fine, those temps are very high, 74c should be your max temp, try to reapply thermal paste or something before give away that cpu.

They are false temps most likely...

Why are you saying that? hw monitor is a good program but maybe you´re right, what about checking with others like coretemp or aida 64 and in the bios to be sure.

I agree with the possibility of the temps being inaccurate. I have had several APUs including the one the OP has. None of them read correctly with any pgm. AMD's own Overdrive even read crazy temps. They (AMD) have since come out with a new version of OD: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4645-amd-overdrive.ht...
This one does away with reading core TEMP in favor of core TEMP MARGIN (to TjMax). It is the preferred method of watching temps with AMD's APUs now. Here is a little more reading on the matter: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2122665/understandin...

So i decided what the hell, might as well try AMD Overdrive and it's giving MUCH more pleasing results. It seems to jump between 35 - 50 instead of a constant stream of 65-90

Thank god :p

Don't get yourself too complacent. Remember, you are reading Thermal MARGIN now. The lower the number, the closer you are getting to TjMax. And a swing of 15 degrees at idle still shows something is wrong. Or were those Idle to Load temps?
