either get an i5 4690k or get a better cpu cooler.

get a better motherboard. See http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/mainstream-gaming-z97-motherboard,3824.html - ASRock Z97 Extreme 4 (or Asus Z97-A)

You only need 8gb RAM for gaming

Your choice is good. One suggestion for you, if you can switch to asus boards, they have better power phase designs. Asus Z97 sabertooth mark 2 has 8+2 power phases, and it comes with 5 year warranty. But its price at present is around $170. Asus has better reputation after sales service. Slightly lower price mobo is Asus z97 A. Otherwise no doubt in your present choice.
