I have this motherboard = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157359

I have this video card = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103252

I first noticed that the graphics card was showing a max of x8 in CPU-Z. I saw people recommending GPU-Z because there's a render option that will push your card for testing. It still shows up as x8. Is there something I'm missing? According to the specs for both components they are suppose to be x16. I'll check again in BIOS, but I don't remember seeing anything that has to do with bus width. Thanks for the help.

I didn't ask about the performance difference. Why is that people always fall back on that for their answer? I've gone through dozens of threads where people are asking WHY and everyone's answer is "x8 vs x16 won't affect your performance anyway". No offense but I(we) didn't ask if it will affect the performance. I'm(we're) asking WHY it's only showing up as X8.

If you don't know, it's REALLY ok to say "You know man, I'm really not sure why it's doing that. I wish you luck with finding the answer though." Nobody is going to think less of you because you don't know the answer.

1st have you anything else in PCI-e slot? Any other card? If you have something in that 2nd PCIe x1 slot it may be cause of it. Because that board have total 16 PCIe lanes for all slots. If there is single card in PCIe it should go x16, if you connect something to PCIe x1 it will take 1 of those 16 lanes, but because way it works main slot wont go x15 but will default to x8 (PCIe lanes which i saw so far are x16, x8, x4, x1) speed. So if you got something in that slot (soundcard, ethernet card, ...) it may be reason.
If possible if you have question you should post complete build sometimes things which you may think are unrelated may be actual cause of problems.

If it is not case and you have 2nd slot free it's kind of mystery.

2nd if you want help you should act accordingly.

How am I not acting accordingly? I, like other people, are trying to figure out WHY stuff isn't working. HE, like other people, respond "It doesn't matter because it doesn't affect the performance of the card." We aren't asking "Hey, just curious if this will affect the performance of our card." We're asking "Hey, this is showing as x8 not x16. WHY?"

I'm not here for a lecture. I'm here for technical help. I'm not going to step on eggshells and hold someone's hand in the off chance that they MIGHT help me. If they give a piss poor answer that does NOTHING to help the situation I'm going to call them out on it.

For example, YOU asked a question that added to the discussion. THIS will lead us further along. HIS response......did nothing. His response was a cop out because his pride would be bruised from saying "You know what man? I'm not sure why. I don't know the answer."

Back to topic though. No, I don't have anything in the x1 pci-e slot. I do however have a wireless nic card in one of the pci slots. Does this still follow the same guidelines of sharing lanes? Or is this a "take it out and test it" situation? I appreciate the constructive advice.

I use to post all the information I could but too many people whine and complain about "That's too much to read." Because for some odd reason it's easier for them to go back and forth for a few days over multiple posts volleying questions/answers than it is to read all the gathered information up front. Trust me, I would LOVE to post all the information I have but sadly people don't want to play that way. So unfortunately if I want help from people I have to do it one post at a time. If there is a list of things you would like to know I'll post it.

CPU = Intel E6700
Ram is two sticks of this = http://www.memoryten.com/pc/017273/DDR2-200p-PC2-6400-2GB/
wireless nic card = http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833389021

PCI and PCIe should be separated they work different way as far as I know.
It may be verious reasons, from faulty GPU, motherboard maybe even cpu or just faulty readings :( I had my hopes on 2nd PCIe card which would explain it but if you use just one, I'm afraid I dont have answer for that.

As was written above it should not affect peformance so it's up to you to decide if you will just live with it or try to dig deeper.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to keep digging deeper. It never was about performance for me. Which is why I got annoyed because like I said before, that's everyone's go to answer. People ask WHY and get responded back with "it's doesn't matter because it doesn't affect your performance". If someone doesn't feel like offering advice/support on trying to figure out the WHY and it's too much of a bother to help then just don't respond. This is basically just a starter computer for my son and I knew going into this that performance wise there would be no difference. I'm just trying to figure out WHY it's doing it.

If I find anything else out I'll update this or if anyone else has advice/suggestions I'm open to them. Thanks again pm4 for your help.
