Can monitor work for gaming setup? (low budget)

Hello,

I have been gaming on a small TV for the past two years. I want to switch to a triple monitor setup but I don't have a big budget. I currently have one of these, a Dell 17' monitor so all I need to buy is two more.

I was wondering if this could work and get a decent gaming experience. Technically speaking, a multimonitor setup would work like that, but you won't be able to extend monitors. A splitter will simply broadcast the same signal over multiple displays. That means the same thing you have over 1 monitor will be shown on every other.

There was a tutorial on Tom's Hw somewhere which explained how to correctly set up multiple monitors. Also, VGA is an analog signal, while anything else uses digital signals, so it'll show a better quality...
Your best option is finding a nice 1080p 22" panel IMO.

Well I was borrowing the TV while a relative of mine was doing some traveling. I just recently talked to my friend (about 15 minutes ago) and he has a couple of these in his garage. I was wondering if I can use them or scrape some money together and buy a monitor.

I'm actually getting them for free. I was just wondering if the quality would be very noticeable. All I am buying are some spliters and VGA wires.

Well I actually just learned I can get them for free... If there is a big difference between quality I would scrape some money together to buy a monitor. Another reason I want to get triple screen is because I usually play plane simulators and I like the immersive feeling. Triple screens are quite expensive and out of my budget at the moment.

Well, I don't think those monitors are 1080p, check what resolution they are, if they are 720p i'll be fine, if they are lower you will lose image quality.

Yes they are 720p. I was thinking that because these screens are small, there won't be a big difference between VGA and HDMI.
