Hi!

I'm looking to build a computer. I've been looking around here quite a bit, but it just seems like the more I research and learn, the less I sure I become of what I want. It'll be used for gaming, but I'm also starting a data science master's degree in a month or so, so I may need to use (or alter) it to do some data mining. I will dual boot Linux (Debian) and Windows. I've never built a computer before, only changed out hard drives and power supplies. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. I was expecting to spend between $1500 and $2000, but I'd be happy to spend less if some of these might seem excessive and maybe willing so spend more if I should. There are no microcenters nearby.

CPU:
i7-4790K - http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KPRWAX8/?tag=pcpapi-20
It's not a big difference between the 4770K and the 4790K in terms of price. I feel like I could use the i7, as I have made a habit of gaming while waiting for my programs to run.

Cooler:
Noctua NH-D14 - http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=47090&vpn=NH-D14&manufacture=Noctua&promoid=1286
This appeared to me to be one of the better-performing air coolers based on reviews and tests I've read. I don't know that I want to worry about the setup and maintenance of water cooling and the learning/research process for it.

Motherboard
ASRock Z97 Extreme6 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157500&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
I'm really not completely sure what to get here. This is what I was looking at because I saw a positive linux review of it. It's probably a little more than I need, but I need good linux compatibility.

Hard Drives
2xSeagate Baracuda 2TB - http://www.ncixus.com/products/?usaffiliateid=1000031504&sku=66010&vpn=ST2000DM001&manufacture=Seagate&promoid=1286
PNY XLR8 240GB SSD - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7768769&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&cm_mmc_o=-ddCjC1bELltzywCjC-d2CjCdwwp&utm_source=Linkshare&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=8BacdVP0GFs&AffiliateID=8BacdVP0GFs-1GRkAlt0vutTNp.ntBmAiw
The 240GB seems good for the price. I need at least 3TB, so I figured to get 4 for now.

RAM
Corsair Vengeance LP 16GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233399&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
From what I've read, low profile is necessary/recommended with the Noctua cooler.

GPU
GIGABYTE GV-N760OC-4GD REV2.0 GeForce GTX 760 4GB 256-Bit - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125494&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
I'm not completely sure what to get here. I looked for something that I'd heard good things about in terms of performance and linux compatibility.

Case
Cooler Master HAF X - http://pcpartpicker.com/part/cooler-master-case-rc942kkn1

Power Supply
Corsair Professional HX750 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139010&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
I could need a second graphics card (or 2 new ones) for data mining work, so I'd like to leave some room here.

CD Drive
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0033Z2BAQ/?tag=pcpapi-20

Sound Card
ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829132006&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=
This seemed like the best option in this price range.from what I've read.

OS
Debian and Windows

I really appreciate any advice, or if this looks good, that'll be great, too. Any advice as to what I may want for data mining work would be much appreciated as well. I'm sorry if I did anything wrong here (format or information-wise). Thanks a ton.

You should think about balance, since i do not have all the information of your "work", what "game" you going to play, what is your prefer resolution?

1. CPU of choice: No conclusion here, is it the best CPU for your work? For game it is kind of waste, does Server CPU serve your work better?

2. Cooler: No Overclock, no Cooler need ==> Waste money

3. Motherboard: No Overclock, mid range Motherboard does just fine ==> Waste money

4. Hard drive: should be 240GB SSD + 4GB Western Digial Green edition. Green edition is the best for storage purpose

5. RAM: No comment here, you should check with timing 1600 vs 1866 for your work, in gaming it makes little diffrent, little waste money here

6. Case:...

7. Power Supply: Good choice

8. CD Drive: Try a cheap one, do not think you will use it a lot

9. Sound card: What is your speaker and what type of music, movie you have? Do you sure you need 7.1?

Sorry for my bad English
