You should stop looking at digital storm, whatever that is.
My PC is also my first build, but if you have the will, and internet connection to find guides on youtube, it`s very easy to put a PC together.

Here`s the 1`st list that came to hand: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PfQt8d

Just let me know if it`s worth our time to give you better options. If you will not take them into account, that`s wasted time.

Edit: Here`s a better one: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/MbvLcf
And the GPU can also be a R9 280X, since I see that it`s even cheaper than the GTX 770.

Where are you going to buy the parts from? And who will build the PC? I understand he will not, but buy your parts, and get a local PC shop to build it for you, or a friend who knows his way around a PC.

I think you can squeeze in 900$ an AMD FX 6300, or even a FX 8320, a good motherboard, and 120 GB SSD, and maybe even a R9 280/R9280x.

As soon as you tell us where you`re buying from, we`ll be able to help you better.

I'll have to talk to him about it if he has someone around his area that'll build it. I would help him build it but he lives in different state.
But I don't think there is anywhere that'll build it there. He just moved there so he doesn't have any friends yet.
I was looking at digital storm and got this for $779
- NVIDIA GTX 750 Ti 2GB
- Intel Core i3 4350 CPU
- 8GB 1600MHz Memory
- 1TB 7200RPM HDD
- ASUS H81 Chipset Motherboard
- 430W Corsair CX Power Supply
- DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW
- Microsoft Windows 8.1

I agree with Pr3di if your friend has a 900 dollar price cap it's a much better idea to build it for 780 dollars you can build a much better pc.

Here's a good example:
fx-8320 cpu (you may get 3 fps less than an i5 4670k at the moment, but since all the new consoles have amd hardware and cpu's that have 8 cores and since most games are developed on console you'll be playing games that allow to use all 8 cores so it may even beat a haswell i5)
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3+ mobo
Crucial Ballistx 8gb ddr3-1866 memory
Seagate Barracuda 1tb 7200rpm hard drive
Gigabyte Radeon R9 280 3gb windforce gpu
Corsair 300r ATX Mid-Tower case
Corsair CX750 750w psu
Windows 8.1 64 bit operating system
All at around 800 dollars excluding internet sales tax if you live in California and shipping.

What resolution is your friend's monitor/what will it be? That's important to know, but I'd guess it's 1080p.

I'd second Devouringbowl's build. If you go with Pr3di's build, you can probably drop all of the "unlocked" parts, assuming your friend won't be overclocking, and save $100 or so.

Definitely consider an SSD in this price range, as it'll give a big boost in game and application loading, and make the computer much more responsive in general. You can grab a Crucial MX100 128GB for $70 for the OS and Games.
