I have two hard drives in my system. My C: drive, for my software and a D: drive for games and downloads. My D: drive is not picking up sometimes. It will show in device management but i can't initialize it (IO error pops up) My D: is less than 6 months old and i this has happened to me on other windows installations (so i know it's not my hard drive). I suspect it is my motherboard, but am not certain. Any suggestions?

Solution
Try replacing the drive letter in the Disk Management

- Open Disk Management
- Right click the Drive D, on pop-up menu, select Change Drive letter and path
- Click Change
- Assign another letter like Z and click OK
- Restart PC.
