Why won't my PC connect to the Internet outside my room?

So I set up my old PC (bought in December 2012) in my room, got it up to date and everything with AV but then when i moved it into my brother's room who I was setting it up for I could barely get one bar of connectivity in there. He has never had a strong connection in there but it's never been that bad.

Check your placement. Are there metal shelves or such nearby? can you reposition the computer to see if the issue is the whole room?

You can also download free apps for your smartphone that would let you check the signal in various places. Wifi Analyzer is one choice for Android.

This would also allow you to see if there are competing wireless signals from nearby wireless networks.

Basically what g90814 said. How far away is your brothers room? I'm guessing it's a wireless connection and if the wireless is having to travel a long way/ through walls, then it's not going to work out well.
