Two days ago I got my pc back from maintenance, and it's been working alright and all,
Only I have noticed that each time I shut it of and turn it back on it takes me directly to the desktop screen instead of the start screen (it's a Windows 8.1).
This has been happening for the past 2 days, wich led me to believe it was in sleep mode instead, I started the taskmanager and checked how long it was on, it showed me 2 days 17 hours 28 minutes.
I don't understand why this is happening since I shut of via the power icon on start.
Thanks in advance.

if you are on new Start Screen, type power and Windows will automatically search for the term and will show you the results.
If you are on Desktop, move your cursor to top-right corner of screen to access new Charms Bar. Now click on Search option and type power in search box.
Now click on Settings link given in right-sidebar of search results page and then click on "Change what the power buttons do
You can alternatively open the same window by typing powercfg.cpl in RUN dialog box
Now scroll down to bottom and you'll see "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" option given in Shutdown settings section .
Disable the option by unchecking the checkbox and then click on "Save Changes" button.( If the option is not shown or greyed out, scroll up and click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" link.)
That's it. Restart your system and your reboot or shutdown problems should get fixed in Windows 8.

double check your settings first, 8.1 can be set to default to desktop

also, are you actually selecting shutdown or using the power button?

open control panel > power options > choose what the power button does > make sure it's set to shutdown

and if you don't want it to ever sleep automatically open control panel > power options > change when the computer sleeps > make sure it's set to never

*bit of duplication with the post above, was typing mine up while it was posted lol*

When I opened the power window I also saw that the shut off icon meant snooze so I changed that to shut off now, and I have disabled the turn on fast startup option.
I checked the taskmanager and it showed me the pc was active for only 30 seconds, so I guess it worked.
Though there appear to be some side effects like, my Google page was not automaticly logged in (will it now be Always logged in or is there something wrong?) and also I have these adds around the Tomshardware forums wich I never had before, they're about Ebay.
Not sure if this is normal so I have to ask.

Yes I saw that it was set to automaticly take me to the desktop, changed it now.
Now I am only not sure what to do with the fact that IE treats me as if I use it for the first time, even YouTube sends me messages like ''we've set the language to your preference and this site uses cookies ets''
Could be cause of ASC? (Advanced System Care) it cleans up my registry and such.

Google page was not automaticly logged in ......you mean to google plus account ?? if so then log in again and save the account and password.....and for adds disable the popups....and what i have suggested have nothing to do with these problems ....
