Hey guys thanks for taking the time to take a look. I recently purchased all of these parts for my first time building a PC. I put the rig together I thought properly however,

Everything turns on correctly all of my fans including the case fans my cooler fans and my GPU fans are all running however, My monitor is plugged into my graphics card and is not turning on it has power but shows no activity and is a blank screen. I also have on the motherboard a solid red light which i believe is the CPU_LED light that stays solid.

I really want to avoid taking everything apart again and reapplying then just to find out I did all the work for nothing because my MOBO is faulty. I'm at work currently and it is stressing me not being able to figure out the issue and just have my new comp work already.

I'm under the impression that perhaps because the monitor is not picking up the GPU that maybe it's not sitting correctly in the slot could that be causing the red light to be showing up as well?

Mind you everything appears to but up fine I just can't tell because there is no display to view the BIOS.

Any thought that may be able to help me or if any of you experienced a similar issue. Thanks in advance.

Solution
YES that is the power for your CPU - without that, your CPU can do nothing... plug it in, and your PC will likely work.

Had you worked through the checklist I posted earlier, you would have found this...

Usually you'll want to plug in a small MB speaker to hear beep codes to tell you if something is wrong. Make sure you have everything plugged in (extra 4/6PIN power connector for the MB), etc. Then just remove everything but the CPU, PSU and memory until you get a display

A continuous red led on CPU is not a good sign. According to your motherboard's manual, a continous LED means the computer is stuck because of a failure in that particular component. If I were you, I'd remove and reseat the CPU, and check the motherboard pins.

Be very careful when your motherboards LGA pins are exposed. Any small bend on a pin and the motherboard becomes paperweight. It also violates warranty, although I don't recall any OEM actually refusing an RMA because of that.

No video output should be expected without a working CPU. It is pointless to troubleshoot anything other than the motherboard, PSU, and CPU until you get rid of that error.

omg, he doesn't just need a bios update does he?

... not that a BIOS update is a big problem....

Possibly a bad Mobo/Pin Damage during install or CPU/CPU install. Your going to have to take it apart and install bit by bit, that's the best way to diagnose the problem if you believe it to be hardware. Do you get any RAM beeps? Try just putting in a pair of RAM as oppose to maxing out the memory banks?

Motherboard:
Also try switching the GPU lane to the other PCIe slot. Checking the correct BIOS is flashed correctly - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/SABERTOOTH_X79/HelpDesk_Download/

PSU:
Switching the cable and or port you are getting power from on your modular PSU.

From what you are saying it sounds that power is flowing correctly through your board to the correct places, this could be as simple as flashing the BIOS to an issue with your CPU.

Also reset the CMOS assuming that you have flashed BIOS. Switch the screen, switch the cable, check compatibility between your motherboard and all your kit.

That's all I can think of right now, let me know how you get along.

Thank you guys for your help so far a quick follow up question would the computer post if the CPU was bad? I don't recall the video card clicking in to place when i attached it I'm HOPING that is the case as that would be the easiest thing to fix. I used a single red cable that came with my PSU to attach the GPU to the power supply. I connected both the 8 pin and 6 pin sides of one cable and ran to the PSU would that have something to do with the issue of no video output?

What I can gather is first I should try and snap in the GPU and see if its that easy. If not I need to take out the CPU and check the pins for damages.
Would that be my first plans of action for this evening?

Before you take out the CPU, check that you have its power connector attached properly to the motherboard as well - its not the big wide one, but the little 4 or 8 pin - it often gets overlooked

I have the big one plugged in but I did not plug that 8 pin on the right side of the cpu into the PSU.

Is that my issue possibly

I assume not having the CPU plugged in would probably make my motherboard feel like there is a problem with it therefore needing to have that light on and I also wouldn't get video output through the monitor right?

I overestimated my ability in thinking i would miss something so simple as plug every damn thing in. I guess when it takes you 6 hours to do a build and your battling a flu you should probably try a little harder lol. Hopefully it all works out I will let you guys know when i get home from work and give it a shot. Thank you sir

No worries - hope you're feeling better soon, and your build is straightforward from this point on... it probably will be

Yes, the motherboard definitely will accuse CPU error if the CPU is missing (why was it missing, though?), and yes, the motherboard will halt the start-up process on a CPU error and there will be no other action whatsoever, video included. The "no video output" issue is a consequence of the start-up process being halted. As long as the CPU led is on, there is no point in even considering any other issues, you might as well remove the VGA completely until the CPU error is resolved.

Not connecting all the ATX power connectors to the motherboard might cause that too. You need both the 28-pin and the 8-pin connectors on the motherboard for it to work. Mind the difference between the PCI-E connector and the ATX connector, as they can both be 8-pin, but one will not fit the other.

Did you install the motherboard drivers? Please install the Intel chipset drivers.

Also, did you format the HDD? Go into the device manager, check if the drive is seen there. If it is, try to populate the volumes.
